Lower the chances of heart attack with Lipitor, Zocor

14 May 2007

Heart disease doesn't denote a single disease. It includes disease like coronary heart disease, ischaemic heart disease, cardiovascular disease, cor pulmonale, hereditary heart disease, and valvular heart disease.

The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It's the major reason people have heart attacks.

Heart diseases could be various factors like hereditary, lack of regular workouts, and eating habits etc. Heart disease is the leading cause of deaths in the U.S. and is considered to be the number one health complication that both American men and women face today.

High cholesterol is one of the main causes for heart disease. Therefore managing high cholesterol is first step towards a healthy heart. One will have to keep track of food, lifestyle, weights etc.

There are various cholesterol lowering drugs like Lipitor and Zocor that are highly recommended by the physicians to treat people with high cholesterol levels.

What happen is that when a person has too much of low density lipoprotein (LPD) it forms walls in the arteries that blocks the flow of blood. These thick deposits that form on your arteries are called plaque. When too much plaque builds up, it can block the flow of blood. When the flow of blood is completely blocked it could result in a stroke or heart attack.

Lipitor blocks the production of cholesterol in the body. Lipitor reduces the amounts of LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B in your blood. It also increases the level of HDL (good) cholesterol in your blood.

Lipitor should be consumed with a full glass of water with or without food. It is taken once a day.
